Itinerary
Day 1:
On arrival, we’ll pick you up from the airport and transfer you to a Hotel in Bijilo, about 30 minutes away. Even on the way, we’ll start spotting local birds, and the hotel grounds themselves often hold 20–30 species, including Speckled Pigeon, Pied Crow, Beautiful Sunbird, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Senegal Parrot.
Day 2:
After breakfast, we leave at 7:00 am for Brufut Woods. This community forest is home to wonderful species like Green and Violet Turacos, Grey-headed Bristlebill, Red-eyed Dove Streptopelia semitorquata, Laughing Dove Spilopelia senegalensis, Yellow-billed Kite Milvus migrans aegyptius, African Grey Hornbill Lophoceros nasutus, Western Red-billed Hornbill Tockus kempi, Little Bee-eater Merops pusillus, Lesser Honeyguide Indicator minor, Ring-necked Parakeet Psittacula krameri, Senegal Parrot Poicephalus senegalus, Yellow-crowned Gonolek Laniarius barbarus, African Paradise-Flycatcher Terpsiphone viridis, Pied Crow Corvus albus, Tawny-flanked Prinia Prinia subflava, Fanti Sawwing Psalidoprocne obscura, Pied-winged Swallow Hirundo leucosoma, Brown Babbler Turdoides plebejus, Olive-naped Weaver Ploceus brachypterus, Village Weaver Ploceus cucullatus, Bronze Mannikin Spermestes cucullata, Red-cheeked Cordonbleu Uraeginthus bengalus, Red-billed Firefinch Lagonosticta senegala, Northern Grey-headed Sparrow Passer griseus, and White-faced Scops Owl.
At lunchtime we move we go back to the hotel for a break break and more birdwatching, then in the afternoon we’ll explore the nearby lagoons and beach for Sandgrouse, Bee-eaters, Osprey, Hornbills, and migrant waders before heading back for dinner.
Day 3:
After breakfast, we leave the hotel at 7:00 am for a short 25-minute drive to Abuko Nature Reserve. This reserve is made up of gallery forest with tall trees, scrubby woodland, and streams running through it. It’s a great place to spot birds such as Black-billed Wood-Dove Turtur abyssinicus, Blue-spotted Wood-Dove Turtur afer, Violet Turaco Tauraco violaceus, Black Crake Zapornia flavirostra, African Jacana Actophilornis africanus, African Darter Anhinga rufa, Palm-nut Vulture Gypohierax angolensis, Hooded Vulture Necrosyrtes monachus, Woodland Kingfisher Halcyon senegalensis, Broad-billed Roller Eurystomus glaucurus, Grey Kestrel Falco ardosiaceus, Black-headed Paradise-Flycatcher Terpsiphone rufiventer, Fanti Sawwing Psalidoprocne obscura, Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat Cossypha niveicapilla and many others.
